| Customer Reviews: Average Rating: Rating : - I Didn't Visit A Gas Station All Summer! This is an excellent electric bicycle. You can use it like a scooter, without pedaling, or you can pedal and get some exercise and a little more range out of it. I used it as my primary means of transportation since purchasing one in April 2007, and it is essential to me now. It can manage around 20-30 miles distance on a charge (depending on how much you pedal) and with my bad knees, this is the first bike I've felt comfortable pedaling in many years. It just glides on electric power, and you can average around 14-18 miles per hour on this thing.
I rode this to and from work and used it to go out shopping or around town all summer, and totally lost track of the cost of gasoline because I didn't go to a gas station in all that time! I just plugged it in and recharged in a few hours. The cost in electricity is very small (I figured around fifty cents per charge, give or take) and the bike is well-equipped. With the basket, rack, and trunk it can easily handle a small load of basic groceries, or a decent-sized box if you use bungees to secure your cargo.
Pros: Decent speed (trust me, at 17 mph I was blasting past other bike riders and it's quite fast enough for a bicycle), you can probably ride on the sidewalk, requires no gas and has no emissions, fun to ride! Extremely low maintenance and operating costs. Decent warranty from manufacturer.
Cons: Trunk is kind of cheap and will break after some wear and tear. Headlight bulbs are hard to find. Weighs almost 100 pounds by itself. A beast to ship and unpack (don't try it alone!). You will need to buy a new battery pack every six months to a year, at a cost of $79. Not very useful in snow or offroad.
Worth it? --- Oh, hell yes!
Please keep in mind I'm an adult male who weighed 240 lbs when I got this bike. I lost about 30 pounds since I got it (riding everywhere will do that-- You can't help but peddle a little!) but it still bore my weight when I was 240 lbs just fine, so you should have no worries about it being a "kiddy bike." This is real transportation. + See Full Customer Review | |
